The film has been receiving much media attention due to its graphic and disturbing scenes, particularly the "bedroom scene", which depicts the brutal murder of the character Eli, played by Casey Hartnett. Director Leone revealed that the scene was the most difficult and complicated to shoot in the entire production, lasting over three minutes and involving a lot of mutilation.

To achieve this scene, Leone had to create a life-size puppet of Hartnett that could be controlled and moved like an animatronic. Under the bed and behind the walls were people moving the puppet's limbs and head with rods. Leone also inserted rubber gloves with tubing into the puppet's chest to make it appear to be breathing.

In the final edit, Leone added Hartnett's eye to the puppet so that it would appear more realistic when Ellie's character wakes up and sees her mother. It was a challenging and technical achievement for the director and his crew, but it ultimately created the harrowing and unforgettable scene that attracted so much attention from audiences and the media.
